Located beside iconic Sunset Beach, the Paumalu Stream Bridge presented a critical structural emergency in one of Oahu’s busiest corridors. With the bridge load capacity reduced, active waterlines serving the North Shore, strict environmental constraints, and the approaching winter swells, time was limited and precision was essential.

Thomas Square is the historic site where sovereignty of the Hawaiian Kingdom was officially restored on July 31, 1843, following an unlawful seizure by British subjects. Each year, La Hoʻihoʻi Ea is celebrated there to commemorate that pivotal moment in Hawaiʻi’s history. Because of its deep cultural significance, restoring Thomas Square was essential to both honor its legacy and revitalize it as a vibrant community gathering place.

ʻIolani Palace stands as one of Hawaiʻi’s most important historic landmarks and a lasting symbol of the Hawaiian Kingdom. Surrounding the palace is a distinctive ironwork fence and masonry wall originally installed in the late 1800s, when the coral block perimeter wall was lowered and topped with decorative iron fencing to reflect Hawaiʻi’s emergence as a modern nation.
