Paumalu Bridge Emergency Shoring
Located beside iconic Sunset Beach, the Paumalu Stream Bridge presented a critical structural emergency in one of Oahu’s busiest corridors. With the bridge load capacity reduced, active waterlines serving the North Shore, strict environmental constraints, and the approaching winter swells, time was limited and precision was essential.
Kaikor partnered closely with the State and design team to implement an innovative solution: installing a temporary steel Acrow truss system beneath the existing bridge to restore structural capacity — a rare and highly complex method. Construction was carefully phased to maintain traffic flow, pedestrian access, and holiday travel, while protecting the surrounding beach and stream environment.
Completed on schedule with zero accidents, the project restored the bridge’s capacity, preserved public safety, and ensured continued access to the North Shore — demonstrating Kaikor’s expertise in managing high-profile, technically demanding infrastructure challenges.
